Hey, I was just thinking about what I was talking about on Wed and AJH’s computer issues. Here are the 3 tips and the links I jabbered at the end.

1/ Sandboxie

This is one of the most secure ways to navigate the web or use an untrusted wifi link, eg Macas or Gloria Jeans etc. It runs all your net trawling in a virtual world within your pc. Any nasty scripts you encounter, malware or trojans are kept in the virtual world. When you log out….. they are gone. You can also open programs or anything in a virtual world eg flash drives (remember my saying, one flash and your gone) ripped cd’s, dvd’s etc. Check they are ok then throw on your real drive.

Most of you have hotmail, gmail, facebook or other social networking sites. All the links, popups, little moving things are all run by scripts. These scripts are the perfect avenue for bad guys to throw nasties out to you. Any link from an email you open is script driven. Therefore the potential from email is great. So if you are going to access these sites, run in a virtual world. This leads me script blocking….

2/ Use Firefox…….. This browser has a whole eco system of add ons which enhance security. No script is an add on that will block all scripts. This sounds awful at first as you will not get any flashy type stuff up at all. All you need to do is go to the bottom right, highlight the no script logo and choose to trust this site. It will remember forever more that site is cool. So the more you trust your most frequently visited sites the less you will see the no script frame. Highly recommended. :) :)

3/ Invest in a disk management tool. Spinrite has been around for ages and is awesome. It is made by Steve Gibson, a genius in security. This tool will maintain and fix hard drives. There is not much of it in size, but it is a very powerful piece of software.

Hope that helps and I hope you enjoyed the day.
