There have been requests for the lesson study evaluations to be posted. Here are some early bird evaluations from two extremely dedicated practitioners. The responses really demonstrate how lesson study adds value not only to the teacher’s professional learning, but also develops a deeper and richer content base.
Initial Lesson Study Evaluations
Appreciation again to our Lesson Study team.

Questions I will use when interviewing our participating Lesson Study teachers.
- Were you exposed to this process in your undergraduate teacher study?
- Had you ever used a framework such as lesson study prior to this process?
- Prior to this process, can you outline how, if at all, you undertook self reflection of your pedagogy.
- Could you outline any fears or the like you may have had prior to undertaking this process.
- What expectations did you bring to the initial lesson?
- Did you find the four key questions useful when reviewing the lesson?
- Were major modifications made after your reflections?
- Did you find yourself dynamically if you like, ‘self reflecting’ during the revised lesson?
- Did the process heighten your awareness of outcomes 1.2.1 and 1.2.3 and embedding the QT Framework in your pedagogy?
- Did the design of the process assist you in reflecting on each lesson, with emphasis on the deep knowledge that is addressed in the revised lesson?
Forum responses will be posted on September 12.

Thanks to Loz G & H and C for their agreement to publish this on our qt site
Glenn.
Our action research is well under way now. This week participants will be provided with time to refine taught lessons using the Quality Teaching Framework coding guidelines. The new lessons will be designed, re-taught and evaluated. The completed documents will be published for use in TPL throughout the school and our partner schools. Best of luck to Mel, Lauren, Corrine and Lauren.
From here we will be once again reflecting on Hattie’s (’03) five dimensions which differentiates expert from experienced teachers. How can we use these attributes of expertise to develop our lesson study frameworks?
- 20/8 – Thanks to our four teachers for their efforts in evaluating and re-designing their numeracy lesson. Next week they will be re-taught, re-evaluated and published. I am looking forward to the final product.
- 25/8 – Finished products are looking awesome. Well done. We will do a collaborative proof read of final products then publish next week.

Wednesday 12/8 @ Lunch – 4/5O.
Sharon and I will be conducting a dem lesson of the Concrete to Symbolic Numeracy action research program. All welcome. Come and add your thoughts. This is an ‘open source’ method that will continue to evolve with professional input.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
Glenn.
As part of the action research I have been conducting as part of the Counting On project I set out to create a solution for the move from concrete to symbolic. We are trialling the format across a new Stage Three target group.
There are hard copies of this format available from Glenn or Sharon.
The use of this card will be a dem lesson next week during a lunch session using 4/5O.
12/8 @ 1.25pm.
Cya then. Glenn.
After doing an off the cuff dem lesson for Sharon today in Numeracy, I realised the importance (again) of sharing ideas together as you teach. We will begin lesson study ASAP.

Week 2 TPL: QT to Support the NSW Teaching Standards – A look at Lesson Study. (Completed)
Beginning Week 3. I (me:) ) will release staff to begin QT Framework coding discussion sessions. The focus of the lesson study will be Numeracy.
Additional Lesson Study focus on IWB’s and the QT Framework. Release time provided by the ‘Counting On’ budget will be provided for staff.
Glenn.
A thread for any great ideas in hands on Numeracy tasks.
Here is the new C On website, just released.
